which came first, the chicken or the bag?

Chicken bags, jewelry, scarf, and shoes available at Moxie.

A big thanks to Miss Stephenie for modeling and Miss Patty for Styling.  We always enjoy hitting the streets of DeKalb to make a spectacle of ourselves for our impromptu photo shoots.  This time as we were outside in the 20 degree temp with Steph in her shorts, we did indeed almost stop traffic.

Lehan Drugs Cash Mobs Moxie in DeKalb, Illinois

This past Sunday we at Moxie were "Cash Mobbed" by team Lehan Drugs. I'd only heard of cash mobbing before but never dreamed that something so wonderful would happen right here in DeKalb.

According to wikipedia a cash mob is ... "a group
of people who assemble at a local business to make purchases. The purpose of these mobs is to support both the local businesses and the overall community." The Lehan group came in together and many had on cute t-shirts stating their mission of spending money locally 2 dollars at a time. And yes, they made their purchases with 2 dollar bills which really makes it easy to identify their purchases. We had a BIG stack of 2's when they were done. They weren't kidding, they really mobbed us .... but in the most social and well-behaved way!

The mission of supporting local businesses is something that I know is so important to Lehans and to us at Moxie as well. If we don't support all the great independently owned businesses we have here in our DeKalb / Sycamore area then what will we be left with if they can't make it. You know as well as I, we will be left with the exact same stores that you can find in almost any town. And that would be sad. Those shops serve purposes for sure but what gives our towns color, flavor, flair and uniqueness is the different talents, products and services offered by all the mom and pop / family owned businesses.

So thank you so very much Lehan Drugs for doing something so uplifting for our local community. I know we were not the only ones who benefitted from your generosity on Sunday. You've inspired me to be even more diligent in resourcing my needs locally.

This post is a copy of the post I did over on our Facebook page.  That post got such a positive response that I felt I should also share it here for any of our  readers who didn't see it over there.

13th Annual Moonlight Shopping Party

It was a blast.  Hard to believe it was one week ago already and I'm just now getting these photos posted.  Time literally flies during the month of December or so it seems here at Moxie.  I can't even wrap my head around the fact that Christmas is only a week and a half away.  I better get busy!  I've got lots of things to do ... how about you??

We hope you were able to drop by our 13th annual Moonlight Shopping Party last Friday night...(and if you didn't you NEED to come next year because it really is a FUN event!).  It was our busiest one yet.  We are honored and so very thankful that y'all still like us.  And the feeling is mutual.  Without you we'd just be a shop filled with fun finds and cute stuff.  But with you, we are a vibrant and thriving part of our local landscape.  We know that shopping local is a choice and we (and I think I speak for the other local businesses that you also suppport) thank you so very much for making that choice!

Thank you Mackenzie Maeder for capturing some great moments on camera!

Happy and Thankful

Today is a good day.  Our annual Holiday Open House was this past weekend and it was a wonderfully busy and happy event.  The moxie elves all worked so hard for the past 4 weeks getting the shop all gussied up for it's Holiday debut.  It warmed our elfin insides to see so many of you visit us at our party like many of you have been doing for the last 12 or so years.  Your loyalty, kindness, friendship and patronage to us and to the cause of shopping locally is simply wonderful.  It does not go unnoticed or unappreciated that's for sure.  This week we will be putting the shop back together again and putting out more items -- vintage and new.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for our Moonlight Shopping Party.  This year it is on Friday Dec. 7th from 6 to 9 pm.  Dare I say this once a year event has become almost legendary for it's festive good times and attendance.  If you've been you know what I mean, and if you haven't you really need to try to make it this year.  Even the husbands love this event.  Do you think the wine, cheese, shrimp and veggies have anything to do with that??? Once again Mr. Moxie will be bar-tending and you know he's fun!

The above image is a vintage postcard from my collection of ephemera.  I will try to use some of these gorgeous images from time to time.  Seems a shame to just keep them in a box.  I've got about 1000 vintage Christmas cards waiting for me to do something fabulous with.  I need more hours in the day!!

Happy Thanksgiving week to you all.   I have so many things to be thankful for!

vintage ornament wreaths and a sigh of relief

Tomorrow we officially kick off the start of our holiday season at the shop with our Annual Holiday Open House.  We've been baking, decorating, tree trimming and laughing up a storm over here at Moxie.  I've even suffered a serious hot glue gun burn or two or three while creating my vintage ornament wreaths but now as all is in place and we wait for our friends and family to come thru the doors this weekend, we feel at peace as once again the annual month long frenzy of getting the shop ready ends and we can move on to phase two .... the six week frenzy of gift bagging, re-stocking and being the best little shop elves that we can be.  I wouldn't change a thing!

the animals speak

.... Just another day on the moxie chain gang ....all work and no play. No laughing, no lunch, no dancing and definitely no joking around. You must be uber serious with a serious distaste for frivolity to work here. Just sayin. Pin It
